Disaster Management refers to the conservation of lives and property during natural or man-made disasters. India is especially vulnerable to natural disasters because of its unique geo-climatic condition, having recurrent floods, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes, and landslides. October 13th is considered to be the ‘International Day of Disaster Reduction’. In view of this, a training on Disaster Management was conductedfor the students of Alpha School, Porur on October 27th, 2023. Alphians are trained to face all obstacles in life. The session was conducted withthe focus to equip our students to face any natural calamity. The Speaker of the day was Mr. M.D. Elangovan, M.A. in Disaster Management and retired Tahsildar from Chennai. He is a recipient of the merit certificate and medal from the honourable Governor of Tamilnadu and also the recipient of a merit certificate from the honourable President of India for the meritorious service in Rover Scout in 1974. The session which lasted about two hours was surely an eyeopener for the students on Disaster Management which included a step by step explanation on the different aspects of Disaster Management by Mr. M. D Elangovan. He concluded the session with a live demo of the different First Aid measures to be taken when any disaster strikes. In a nutshell, the training session was acknowledged as a very informative session by the students and teachers of Alpha, which will surely prove to be handy when faced with natural calamities.
